Capellic's team working together

Working at Capellic

Capellic is a remote-first company that values expertise, learning, empathy, and commitment to making the work lighter for our clients and each other. We believe that each individual has a different relationship to work and what gets them out of bed each morning. We learn time and time again that regardless of years of experience, each person can bring powerful ideas to the conversation. We built Capellic’s culture by establishing a clear set of company values and keeping those values front and center in our day-to-day work.

Our Values

Expertise & Learning

Capellic values being great at what you do and always seeking to be even better. Capellic’s team has a whopping average of 16.4 years of domain-relevant experience: supporting diverse clients, understanding different needs, and solving unique challenges. We understand the non-profit world, and know how to help.

But years of experience is just one part of building expertise, which is why we support structured learning at Capellic. Our team is expected to take their professional development seriously by taking courses, attending conferences, or taking an intentional approach to building out their knowledge via time spent researching and testing ideas.

We also believe in learning from each other. Capellic uses retrospectives, code reviews, team demos, and deliverable reviews to normalize the process of giving and receiving constructive feedback (constructive can be both positive and negative, by the way).

Safety

In order to do our best work, to have the best ideas rise to the top, everyone must feel safe to be who they are, ask questions, provide positive and negative feedback, and work in an environment free from harassment from colleagues, supervisors, and clients. We take safety very seriously. We invest in unconscious bias training, sexual harassment prevention training, and have audited our operations against best practice designed to make workplace more diverse and inclusive. We’ve used the audit to prioritize and guide changes and improve how we work.

Empathy & Making the Work Lighter

The concept of “making the work lighter” permeates everything we do. We regularly ask ourselves: How do we make client deliverables easier to understand and respond to? How do we make it easier for our colleagues to do their work? How do we make this web experience better for a client’s site visitors?

Trust

Trust is everything—with each other, with our clients, and our vendors.

With our partners, building trust means taking the time to listen carefully, understand our partners’ needs and goals, and provide guidance that we believe is in their best short- and long-term interest.

With our colleagues (and with our clients), building trust means giving and receiving kudos and critiques, owning mistakes, and remembering that we’re here to help each other. It’s being both clear and kind. And assuming good intent from others.

The Day-to-Day

Capellic is a remote company and has been since we were founded in 2012. We work normal business hours and keep the work predictable, interesting, and challenging (in a good way) as much as we possibly can. This gives our team flexibility to make their work days work for them.

We have four main teams: Strategy & Creative, Development, Project Management, and Operations. We have cross functional teams that support our marketing and business development efforts. Individuals within these teams take on special projects, such as accessibility, website performance, Not a Bot AI Summit, JumpStart (Capellic’s Drupal starter site for nonprofits), and more.

And once a week, we come together as a full team to celebrate what deserves celebrating, learn from each other through demos, and keep everyone up to date on important company news.
