Activities

Research & Strategy

We begin all projects with a deep dive into your organization, your strategic goals, and data analysis of what’s working and not about your current experience.

To develop a holistic understanding of your goals, successes, and challenges, we:

  • Conduct a document review, landscape analysis, and user research  to define and prioritize the challenges that should be solved for launch

  • Lead interviews, workshops, and presentations with your core team and key stakeholders to identify experience and technical needs, pain points, and success metrics

  • Develop a digital experience strategy that anchors all redesign decisions. It also creates a basis for discussing what change management and training is necessary.

Experience Design

In this stage, we begin to architect an intuitive, performant, mobile-first user experience and design system.

We lead sitemap and taxonomy working sessions that will organize your site for end users to explore and engage with directly, and for AI chatbots to parse for user searches. At the same time, we develop the page-level experience through wireframes and functional specifications of all elements (their purpose and how they’ll work).

Throughout the process, we plan for WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance and a wide range of cognitive, education, and fluency levels.

Excellent work. It's been a joy working with you all, as always.

Visual Design

We’ll start fresh or build on your brand guidelines to create a sense of place, purpose, and possibility. To get there, we:

  • Lead creative workshops to bring stakeholders together and establish priorities for a new visual design

  • Develop a creative brief that defines visual identity goals and requirements

  • Draft page designs that bring your brand to life and inspire connection, curiosity, and participation

  • Develop a complete design system and front-end component library

Build & Launch

We often leverage JumpStart, our Drupal-based CMS starter created specifically for nonprofits. With a base experience in place, we can spend more time on custom features and integrations.

Activities in this phase include:

  • Sprint cycles of building, code review, accessibility review, performance testing, and client testing to get you into the CMS as soon as possible.

  • 1:1 testing training, content entry training, and a library of training materials for managing your website confidently.

  • A product roadmap of new features and implementation time.

Core Team & Stakeholder Engagement

The processes and tools we use are designed to facilitate transparency, clear communication, and collaboration throughout our work together.

To make sure risks are identified and mitigated early, and the project stays on time and budget, we:

  • Hold regular check-ins and share status reports that cover budget, progress, timeline, and risks.

  • Develop pre- and post-launch communication plans for internal stakeholders and end users

  • Have a dedicated program director and project manager throughout the process, so we keep overarching goals and supporting activities aligned
